“Sean was foremost a leader of the teams he captained…He set the example for the rest of the team. In many ways he is considered the father of LSC’s modern day cross country program!
Sean Fisher ’00 graduated with a B.S. in Sports Medicine from Lyndon State College in 2000. After graduation he worked as a track coach at Littleton High School followed by Lake Region High School. He also worked as the assistant cross country coach at LSC from 1999-2005. Sean is currently employed as a carpenter with Ron Fadden Carpentry.
While a student at LSC, Sean was a stand out cross country runner for four years. With a list of honors a mile long, it is no doubt that he has been referred to as one of Lyndon’s all-time top male runners. Sean’s accolades include All-Conference Team, All-Region Team, All-State 1st Team, and All-State 2nd Team – and he didn’t just receive each of these honors once, it was twice, three, and even four times! Perhaps the most impressive stat is that Sean was the first Lyndon State athlete ever to qualify and participate in three national championships.
Sean was also one of the most consistent in the conference and region. He was the #1 or #2 runner in 29 out of 30 races over his four year career on the cross country team. He was recognized as the Mayflower Conference Individual Champion and the LSC Male Athlete of the Year in 1998.
Chosen to serve as captain for four years, Sean’s peers respected him and looked to him for leadership. He was further recognized as their Most Valuable Player three times. It is said that Sean was the cornerstone for the team’s successes that followed which included five trips to nationals.
Sean’s love for running didn’t end at the time of his graduation. In 2004 he finished 78th out of 2,200 runners in the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon with a time just over three minutes and in 2005 he finished 3,671 out of over 20,000 runners in the Boston Marathon.
In 2006 Sean became the inaugural coach of Lyndon’s volleyball squad. In addition to coaching, he referees volleyball as well. He has been a referee for the St. Johnsbury Recreation Department since 2000 and can be seen doing the same at the Caledonian County Fair each summer!
Sean lives in Newbury with is wife, Harvest ’01, and their precious daughter, Rylie.
