Jennifer Kirchoff Layn ’06 began her academic and athletic career at Lyndon State College in 2002. As a student, she received a Scholar Athlete Award and was named Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and College. Jen graduated with a degree in allied health sciences (now known as exercise science) in 2006.
While at Lyndon, Jen was a two-sport athlete (women’s soccer and softball) all four years and a member of Lyndon’s Hockey Club for one year. Her soccer achievements include: four-time Sunrise Conference Champion (2002-2005); All-Conference NAIA First Team in 2002; NAIA Region 10 First Team in 2002 and 2003; Sunrise Conference First Team in 2003, 2004, and 2005; NAIA All-American Soccer Honorable Mention in 2003; Sunrise Conference Defensive Player of the year in 2004 and 2005.
Her softball achievements include: four-time Sunrise Conference Player of the Year; four-time Team MVP; four-time Sunrise Conference Champion; Sunrise Conference First Team (2003-2006); All-American Honorable Mention (2005); in 2004, ranked first in runs batted in per game and first in individual stolen bases on the national level.
Jen received the Dudley Bell Award, which is given to the outstanding female athlete of the year, three years in a row. In 2006, she received the Character Award.
After graduating, Jen stayed involved in Lyndon State College athletics. She was the assistant volleyball coach in 2006, the first year of the program, and head softball coach from 2007 to 2012. The softball team went to the national competition in Illinois in Jen’s first season of coaching.
She is currently the development coordinator at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, a professional skating coach at Fenton Chester Ice Arena, and the physical education and health teacher at Thaddeus Stevens School. Jen and her husband, Joe ’02, reside in Peacham, Vt. with their daughter, True, and are expecting their second child in February 2016.
