The four years that Roxanne Carson Courser ’82 spent at Lyndon State College were devoted to basketball, and to preparing herself for a career as a physical education teacher. Graduating with a B.S. in 1982, she has carried her love of athletics into her professional life.
She played four years for the basketball Hornets, serving as team captain for the last three. She was also selected MVP three years running: during her sophomore, junior and senior years. During her final season at Lyndon State, she scored 1000 points in competitive play.
Roxanne’s athletic activities weren’t confined to basketball however. She played varsity soccer for two years (1979 and 1981), coordinated LSC intramurals in ’80 and ’81, and served two years as Sports Information Director.
After graduation, she taught physical education at Burke Hollow School and is now at Lyndon Institute, where she teaches P.E. and coaches the girls’ basketball team. She has continued to distinguish herself and, in 1990, was named Basketball Coach of the Year. She has also been chosen to represent Vermont as a coach of the state Alhambra team. A highlight of her coaching career has been passing the 100-win mark.
For the past 12 years, Roxanne has been active with youth soccer and currently serves as president. Basketball is a continuing passion of hers, and she devotes countless hours to coaching young girls who share that interest. She serves as volunteer elementary girls’ basketball coach and coordinates the girls’ basketball camp. More recently, she has begun coaching Babe Ruth softball for the Town of Lyndon. In her spare time, she officiates at both basketball and soccer games and is active with the community fitness trail.
She and her husband Clarence “Bud” Courser ’62 live with their son Travis in Lyndonville.
