When Anna Wilson '81 arrived at LSC in the fall of 1977, it didn’t take her long to get involved as she immediately joined the women’s soccer team. She definitely made her mark on the soccer field, receiving the honor of most valuable player in 1977 and again in 1981. She served as a tri-captain in 1981, adding to her leadership by scoring ten goals in that one season. Anna also played on the women’s lacrosse team for one season.
Anna graduated from LSC in 1981 with a B.S. in Physical Education. In 1987, after a one-year stint at the Barton Graded School and several years as a substitute teacher in the Addison County area, Anna landed a position teaching physical education at the Ferrisburgh and Addison Central Schools, where she is to this day. Her love of athletics has kept her involved in her off time coaching a variety of sports. In 1995, she began coaching the junior varsity girl’s soccer team for Vergennes Union High School, and in 1996, took on the opportunity to also coach Vergennes’ varsity track and field team. In 1997, she added the Ferrisburgh Central School elementary girls’ basketball team to her list of coaching duties. In addition, Anna is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education.
One might think that between teaching and coaching a sport during each season of the year, Anna wouldn’t have time to do anything else. However, that is not the case. Anna is involved in a number of community service projects; and she volunteers her time in a number of ways. She is active in the Addison United Soccer League as both a coach and volunteer; she is a clinician for Elementary School Soccer Coaching Clinic and co-coordinator for the Wellness Team at the Ferrisburg Central School. She active in the Orwell Congregational Church, serving as the church’s recreation leader for their vacation Bible school and nursery coordinator. She volunteers for the Addison County Pregnancy Care Center. She also finds time to play soccer on both the Vermont Women’s Soccer League (a group she helped organize) and the Men’s Soccer League and plays softball on the Vergennes Assembly of God Church’s team.
Fellow colleague Mike Corey, soccer coach at Mt. Abraham stated: “Annie’s easy demeanor and skillful coaching has helped instill a love and excitement for soccer in an incredible number of young athletes. Her enthusiasm for the game and the children who play is infectious.” Former Vergennes Union High School athletic director Michael Koscinski added: “Her passion for the game is overwhelming as she enthusiastically coaches the game she loves dearly. This passion has transcended to her players. Her teams play with energy and positive sprit.”
Congratulations, Anna. We are very proud to add your name to LSC’s Athletic Hall of Fame roster of inductees.
