In the fall of 1980, high school football stand-out, Mark Hilton '84, set foot on the hill of Lyndon State College. Willing to hang-up his football cleats, Mark entered LSC to pursue a degree in Communications Arts and Sciences. However, he had no idea that this small little college and the people in it would have such an impact on his life and eventually become part of his extended family.
When you ask Mark about his LSC athletic career and accomplishments the conversation always comes back to one thing – FAMILY. Mark was a “starter” on the LSC baseball program for four years and was awarded the Anderson Coaches Award two of the four. He was also awarded the Athletic Intramural Council Award. In 1984, Mark graduated from LSC with a bachelor of arts degree in communications, arts and sciences.
After graduation, Mark went on to work in the private sector dabbling in radio, real estate and managing sales at Lewis and Saunders in Laconia, NH. Even though he had jobs out of the area he was never really gone. Mark has volunteered his time as the Assistant Men’s Baseball Coach here at LSC for the past 18 years – a job that he has taken very seriously. WHY? Because he loves the game, competition is in his blood and his strong beliefs in the education and people here at Lyndon State College.
“Lyndon State College is not just a place to get a degree. It is a place that educates and develops people. You learn to go after what you want. You understand what it means to become part of a family. I made some great contacts here at LSC – mentors, collegues and lifetime friends. LSC made me what I am today and I am truly grateful!.”
LSC is lucky enough to have Mark “officially” on staff here as Assistant Professor of Business – a job that he has done for the past two years. Last year, Mark was selected by the senior class as the outstanding faculty member of the year, and was recently named the Business Department Chair. He resides in Lyndonville with his wife, Sue, and two children, Margaret and Patrick (P-Man).
