Michael Brosseau ‘88 enrolled at Lyndon State College in 1985, hoping to play baseball and major in Health Sciences. He did both successfully and today, almost two decades later, continues to put the experience he gained here to regular use.

During the years that he played for the Hornets, Mike served as baseball tri-captain in 1986-87 and was named team MVP twice: in both 1985 and 1986. He pitched for the All-Conference team three years running (’85-’87) and, in 1985, was named All-Conference Co-MVP. In 1987, he also pitched for the All District 5. When he graduated, he held the team record for pitching the most winning games.

Following graduation, Mike went to work for Mardon Industries in Lyndonville, where he worked as a quality control inspector and a bench inspector. He currently works for United Parcel Service in Twin Mountain, NH, a position he has held for eight years.

Throughout his professional career, Mike has filled many community service roles, serving as both chair of the Brunswick (NH) School Board and past chair of the Brunswick Town Planning and Zoning Board. He also has devoted a great deal of time to coaching, both at Colebrook Academy and as a summer volunteer.

At Colebrook, he has served as assistant varsity softball coach for the past four years; his team is currently defending Class S champions. According to Athletic Director Buddy Trask, Mike is “knowledgeable about the sport, and respected by his players and peers.” His energy and initiative are well recognized. “Mike will volunteer for any number of jobs that need to be done to keep the program going,” Buddy says.

Mike also coaches summer softball for the 12-and-under age group at Colebrook, and has managed the New Hampshire Girls Bambino Softball All-Stars for the 14-and-under team. His 14-and-under team captured the state championship in 2000 and the runner-up title in 1999.

“Mike has been a driving force in taking the town’s Babe Ruth teams to regional and, in one case, national prominence,” says Robert Unangst, who has coached with Mike at Colebrook Academy. “His ability to motivate young athletes is uncanny. He drills young players in the fundamentals of the game and brings them along to where they consistently execute these skills in game situations. It was this contribution from his outstanding coaching ability that was integral to championships his teams have won.”

His coaching activities also include Stratford junior high girls’ softball (1998-99), Stratford t-ball (1998-99) and pitching coach for 12-and-under boys’ baseball in the Colebrook Cal Ripken League.

Mike’s impact on his players is best summed up by one of his former players, who wrote him in October 2003 to tell him of her decision to dedicate her high school homecoming game to him.

“You did more than teach me to love softball in Little League, you have reminded me throughout high school,” the player wrote. “You always seemed to have confidence in me, even though I didn’t. A lot of coaches can instill the love of the game, but few can inspire you to enjoy the tremendous people around you. You have done both and, in return, my last soccer game in Groveton is for you.”

Mike and his wife Avis live in Twin Mountain, NH, with their two daughters, Katie and Emily.
