John Kresser ’82 graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education from Lyndon State College in 1982. He went on to become a full time alpine ski coach at Burke Mountain Academy the same year. After working at Burke for several years, John was selected to be an alpine ski coach for technical events on the U.S. Ski Team. During his year with the U.S. Ski Team, John traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, as well as to Japan, coaching the U. S. Women’s Team on the World Cup Tour, and at the 1989 World Championships in Vail.
After an exhilarating year abroad, John returned to Burke as a national junior development coach n 1990 to prepare the next generation of Olympians. While at Burke, John coached several “Burkies” who went on to ski in the Olympics.
As a student at Lyndon, John competed in soccer, baseball, and alpine skiing from 1976-77, and again from 1979-1981. He was captain of both the baseball and alpine ski teams from 1980-81. The alpine team was recognized as division champions two of John’s four years.
John is employed as a driver education instructor at Lyndon Institute, where he also coaches the alpine teams and J.V. baseball. He has served his community in two coaching capacities—Burke Mountain Junior Racing Program director and coach, and Lyndon Youth Soccer coach.
John lives in West Burke with his wife, Sarah ’91, and his children, Keara and Ryan.
