Lisa Bedor Ummer ’97 began her college career at Pine Manor College, graduating with an associate’s degree in early childhood education in the spring of 1986. In the fall she enrolled at LSC to continue work on a bachelor’s degree.
She joined the women’s basketball team that fall in hopes of helping LSC while enjoying her final two years of eligibility. Known for being an outstanding basketball player all through high school, it was no surprise Lisa would work her magic on the LSC courts as well. During her two years on the hoop team, Lisa was co-leader in assists and managed to score over 500 points. She also served as co-captain during the 1987-1988 season. When LSC Coach Sue Henry was asked to describe Lisa, she said: “Lisa was an unselfish, hard working, team player. She was one of my all-time favorite players.”
However, it wasn’t just in basketball that Lisa excelled. Having taken a few years off to start a family, Lisa returned to LSC in the fall of 1992 to work on completing her degree and decided to try herself as a cross-country runner.
During the 1993 season, Lisa became the first LSC female to qualify to participate in an NAIA national championship as an individual. In the 1993 and 1994 seasons, Lisa was named to the All-Mayflower Conference Team and Vermont All-State Team; in addition, she was named LSC Women’s Cross Country “Most Outstanding Runner” in both years. In 1994, Lisa was also named Mayflower Individual Champion and was a member of the All-Northeast Region Team. She placed first for Lyndon in 14 of the 16 races in which she competed in the1993 and 1994 seasons.
After graduating from LSC in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine, Lisa began working at Lyndon State College as an Admissions Counselor; she was promoted to Assistant Director of Admissions in 2002. Most recently, Lisa was part of the admissions team that recruited the largest incoming class in the history of the college.
Lisa has volunteered her time at the St. Johnsbury Recreation Department over the years, coaching a number of teams, including T-ball for six-year olds and girls’ basketball for third through sixth graders. She also served as a co-leader for the Girl Scouts and co-coached the freshman girls’ basketball team at Lyndon Institute during the 1998 season. Lisa has participated in the Women’s Recreation Basketball League and played on LSC intramurals teams.
In her spare time, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family, and especially enjoys watching her children, Zachary (14) and Alley (11), grow and mature. Lisa resides in St. Johnsbury, Vt.
