Michael Brown ’92 graduated from Lyndon State College with a degree in physical education.  He went on to earn a master of education in educational studies from Southern New Hampshire University in 2011.

As a four year varsity starter in the infield for Lyndon’s baseball team, Mike earned All-Conference and All-District honors.  In 1989, as a freshman, he was named All-District Second Base.  In his senior year, he earned All-Conference Second Base honors, .400+BA in the District Tourney and advanced to the championship game.  Mike refers to his time in college as “four of the best years of my life playing baseball at Lyndon State College.”

Since graduating from Lyndon, Mike’s career and volunteer activities have revolved around athletics.  Since 1995, he has been a middle school physical education and high school health teacher at Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, Vt. (BFA-Fairfax). He is also the varsity baseball coach for Bellow Free Academy.

Mike was the athletic director (AD) at BFA-Fairfax, from 1997-2013, at which time the position was restructured, so he returned to teaching full-time.  In a ten year period as AD, he doubled the size of the athletic department by increasing funding for middle school and sub-varsity sports offerings, adding varsity football, varsity boys’ and girls’ Nordic skiing, boys’ and girls’ track & field, and adding club activities, including indoor track and ultimate Frisbee.

He has held numerous coaching roles in addition to varsity baseball, including middle school soccer and basketball, junior varsity and freshman basketball, and has served as volunteer assistant for varsity basketball.  Mike also helped form the Friends of BFA-Fairfax Booster Club.

Mike has earned numerous honors, records, and achievements as a coach, including four state championships, three in the last five years, an undefeated season in 2014, and a combined record of 55-2 the past three years.  His coaching record in Vermont high school baseball is 265-79 (.770) in 19 seasons as head coach.  He was named USA Today 2015 Vermont High School Baseball Coach of the Year.

Mike and his wife, Michelle Lamarre Brown ’90, live in Fairfax, Vt.  They have two daughters, Victoria, a freshman in college at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and Katie, a senior in high school.
