Men's basketball player Brian Gallagher '91 graduated from Lyndon State College with a bachelor's degree in physical education and certificate in athletic training in 1991. He completed his Master of Education at Southern New Hampshire University.  His course study research focused on empowering students with skills and individual strengths and self-directed development.

While at Lyndon, Brian played basketball for three seasons and was elected captain his junior year.  Due to a serious knee injury, he was forced to miss his senior season. Brian spent four years in the athletic training program, where he assisted with spring and fall athletic teams.

Since graduating, Brian's career has revolved around teaching and athletics.  Since 1992, he has been a physical education teacher in the Montpelier Public School System. He started his career at the middle school level serving as a teacher, athletic director, and coaching three seasons a year. He also umpired high school baseball.  The last twelve years he has taught at Montpelier High School and overseen major program changes in curriculum as well as assisted in planning the improvement of fitness facilities.

In 2002, Brian was a founding member of the Vermont Mountaineers and in 2003 the organization entered the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) as its 13th franchise.  Brian has served the organization as the team's general manager since the beginning and was elected president in 2015.  He currently serves in both roles. Brian also serves on the NECBL Board of Directors and is chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee.

During his tenure with the Mountaineers the team has made major improvements annually to the facility.  The organization has been in the top tier of league attendance, despite being in the smallest market.  To date, the Mountaineers have seen 103 alumni move into the ranks of professional baseball with twelve making it to Major League Baseball.

The Mountaineers have made it to the league championship five times and have won the Fay Vincent Championship Trophy three times.  In 2019, the Mountaineers will have the honor of hosting the NECBL's annual All-Star Game.  This will be the third time the organization has been selected to receive the honor.

Brian has earned numerous honors including Vermont VFW High School Teacher of the Year Award in 2017, Montpelier VFW Teacher of the Year Award in 2016, and The Times Argus "Best of the Best – High School Teacher Recognition" in 2014.
