Since graduating from Lyndon State College 1984 with a degree in business administration, Pete Kellaway '84 has had no trouble duplicating the success he enjoyed while at LSC.  Most will recall the way he shone in his four years on LSC’s baseball and soccer fields.  He has demonstrated that his success as a student athlete was no fluke, prospering since in numerous business ventures.

Pete served as captain of the soccer team his junior and senior years and was elected to the All-Conference team both years. He was also voted the soccer team’s most valuable player in 1984. During the 1983 season, Pete played every minute of each game.

Equally at home on the baseball diamond, Pete was chosen as  co-MVP in 1983 and MVP in 1984.  In 1983, he was ranked 27th nationally in hitting in the N.A.I.A. Division III.  In 1984, he defeated every opponent from the mound and earned a spot on the All-Conference team. He was chosen as LSC’s Male Athlete of the Year for 1984.

Pete launched his business career in 1984 with a management position at the Palm Beach Polo Club in Florida.  That was followed by a three-year stint as sales manager for a Kirby Vacuum franchise, bringing his sales force to 23 representatives before departing his position.  In 1987, he purchased the Nickelodeon Cafe in Newport, Vt., and has been operating it since.  He bought a deli and ice cream shop in Newport in 1992, only to sell it a year later and purchase the Belfry Restaurant in Montgomery Center, which he also still owns and operates. He also has added property management to his entrepreneurial endeavors.

Throughout this flurry of activity, Pete never got away from his passion for athletics.  In 1991, he was a volunteer junior varsity soccer coach at North County Union High School and from 1992-94, he coached the freshman soccer team.  He has co-run a summer soccer league for the past several years.  Most importantly, however, he has been a steady sponsor of Little League teams, as well as adult softball, basketball, and soccer teams in order to encourage participation in his local area.

One needn’t look far to realize that Peter Kellaway is a very motivated and talented individual.  Whether he is recognized as a gifted college athlete, shrewd businessman, or outstanding community member, it is apparent that he has encountered success so far in life.  Hopefully, there is much more to come.
