In 1974, the Lyndon State College Women’s Basketball Team went undefeated within their regular season.  Their record was 16-0.  Achieving an undefeated record was quite an accomplishment for any team, especially a women’s team in the 1970s.

Each and every player on this team gave 100% effort in both practice and in games.  The players were a cohesive unit, supporting one another during the season and throughout the rest of the year.  They were a team both on and off the court.  This team was like a family of their own, sharing unimaginable friendships, while at the same time, giving Lyndon State College regional and national recognition because of their accomplishments.  They proudly represented the college and were a credit to their coach.

The team played under the direction of coach Marilyn “Jamie” Owen, a professor of Physical Education at the College who also coached varsity softball and field hockey at Lyndon State.

Due to their unblemished record, the team qualified for the E.A.I. A.W tournament held at Brooklyn College in New York City.  Their opponent was from Southern Connecticut University, a much stronger team from a much larger college.  Unfortunately, the undersized Lady Hornets of Lyndon lost and were eliminated from the tournament.
