Men's basketball player Joseph Layn '02 was inducted by former Lyndon Head Men's Basketball Coach and Lyndon Hall of Famer Eric Berry '91. Joe graduated from Lyndon State College with a degree in Recreation Resource & Ski Management in May of 2002.
As a four-year player for Lyndon's basketball team, Joe was named a two-time MVP, scored 1,000 career points, was team captain his junior and senior year, was appointed to the All-Tournament team and was twice appointed to the Mayflower All-Conference team.
After graduating, Joe went on to coach his favorite sport. He spent 2002-2005 as head middle school basketball coach at the Thaddeus Stevens School, and then went on to be the junior varsity and freshman head basketball coach at Lyndon Institute until 2007.
Since his time at Lyndon, Joe's career and volunteer activities have revolved around his passion for the outdoors. In 2000, he started his own lawn and property maintenance company in Lyndonville, which he still operates today. His company has since moved to Peacham and provides lawn and property maintenance to the towns of Peacham, Danville, West Danville, St. Johnsbury, Barnet, and West Barnet. Joe also does logging work as well; with the purchases of equipment for logging, Joe was able to build his own log home for his family.
Joe is an avid supporter of the Peacham Town Library and Astronomy Center. Since he started his business in 2000, Joe often donates lawn and property maintenance services to the Peacham Town Library and Astronomy Center as an act of volunteerism.
Joe and his wife, Jennifer Kirchoff Layn '06, live in Peacham, Vermont. They have a daughter, True, and a son, Roarke.
