Utica, NY - Vermont State University Lyndon had the first of a weekend series of spring races at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute on Saturday evening. The host Wildcats took the dual race, 17-44. Poly's Noah Breedy was the individual winner, covering the 5K course in 21:03.
Freshman Ethan Cardenas (Tracy, CA), running in his first collegiate race, was the top finisher for Lyndon. He finished fourth overall with a time of 22:50. Xavier Rainwater (Frisco, TX), Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY), Owen Traynor (Rutland, VT), and Alex Leslie (Dalton, NH) were Lyndon's other scoring runners.
Lyndon head coach Chris Chichester was pleased with the efforts of his squad, all of whom were competing in their first race. "It was great to see some new Hornets racing on this hot windy day in Utica. Ethan really found his groove about halfway in the 4 loop course and put in a solid 4th place finish. Everyone is looking forward to improving on their times in tomorrow's race, so expect some faster times tomorrow, which the colder temps should help."
The Hornets will compete in Utica again on Sunday, with dual races against SUNY Poly and Utica University. Race time is 9:30 am.
