NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Lyndon State College men's soccer team dropped its second game of the season Saturday at Mitchell College's Alumni Field 2-0.

The Hornets controlled the ball well in the first half and were able to create good scoring chances.  Getting off 10 shots as a team, they were unable to convert.  It was looking like their half until the 34th minute when Cody Poirier received a pass in the defensive midfield from Andrew Nigro, then lofted the ball over the back line to Robert Pullan on the right sideline.  Pullan dribbled into the box and put the ball past keeper Matt LaClair inside the far post.  Just like that the Hornets found themselves trailing 0-1.

However, the Hornets continued to produce chances and with less than eight minutes to go in the half swarmed in front of the Mitchell net only to have a shot toward the right corner cleared away by a defender.

The second half leaned more in the favor of the Mariners as they produced eight shots and limited the Hornets to just three.  With just 12 seconds left in the game Andris Vital received a ball inside the box from Enajee Caple and finished past LaClair to push the lead to two.

Though a tough loss for the Hornets, head coach Rob Carey was pleased that despite the outcome, "we were able to implement a few ideas that we've utilized in practice."  Thinking forward Carey added, "We have great camaraderie and our spirits are intact."

The Hornets (0-2-0) host Curry College Sunday, September 6th at 3:30pm.
