Lyndonville, VT - Two local standout baseball players from just down the hill at Lyndon Institute have deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon baseball program for 2026-27.  Pitcher Jackson Dwyer and catcher Griffin Lawson, both members of a Viking team that was the Vermont Principals Association Division 2 state runner-up, will join the Hornets this fall.  Dwyer will study Business with an Accounting concentration and Lawson will study History.

Dwyer was a three-year starter for the Vikings.  He capped off his career with a stellar senior season, posting an 8-1 record over 54 innings pitched.  He allowed only eight runs and struck out 50 batters against only 11 walks.  Dwyer was a !st Team All-Capital Division selection as a senior, after earning 2nd Team honors following his junior season.

Dwyer has also been active on the club and travel baseball circuit.  His Babe Ruth teams have captured four straight Vermont state championships, and he has competed in the annual All-American Amateur Baseball Association tournament in Johnstown, PA.

Lyndon Institute head baseball coach Jeremy Wheeler recognized the role that Dwyer played in helping his team reach the state title game.  "Jackson is a very crafty pitcher and gave us quality starts every time he took the mound.  His consistency and game control helped shape our season and get us to where we could compete for the state title."

Lawson also enjoyed a big senior season.  He was a four-year varsity catcher and received multiple game and weekly local honors on the way to a 2nd Team All-Capital Division selection.  Lawson was a multi-sport athlete who also played basketball, Football, and soccer in high school.

Lawson is an outstanding student who was the salutatorian of LI's graduating class and a recipient of the Vermont Pilots Association Flight Training Scholarship.  He has already earned an Associate of Science degree in General studies through VTSU's Lyndon Learning Collaboration.

Wheeler praised Lawson for all of the intangibles that he brought to his team.  "Griffin is extremely intelligent and was a four year starter behind the plate.  Great teammate, works hard each and every day to get better and will do anything for the program to succeed."

VTSU Lyndon head baseball coach Cameron Curler is thrilled to add two locals to his roster.  "I am super excited to have these guys joining us this fall.  One of my recruiting goals is always to get the best players in the area, so to get two of the top players from Lyndon Institute, which has been one of the top programs in the state over the past few years, is really exciting for our program and for the Lyndon community."

Curler believes that both players can make a big impact on the diamond.  "Jackson has been on our radar for years and is a guy who always gives his team a chance to win.  He is a great competitor, and I expect him to compete for a significant role on the mound from day one.  Griffin is a superb young man who has consistently performed at a very high level both on and off the field.  In addition to earning class Salutatorian honors, he has been a staple in the middle of a very successful Lyndon Institute lineup.  He brings toughness, leadership, and a tremendous baseball IQ behind the plate, and we're excited to watch him continue to develop."

Dwyer and Lawson join Daniel Kuindersma (Oakfield, ME), Jack Edelstein (Rochester, NY), Dawson Himes (Lyman, NH), and Jonah Javier (Pickering, ON) in Lyndon's Fall 2026 class.  The Hornets expect to announce additional commits in the near future.
