LYNDONVILLE, VT - Daniel Kuindersma (Oakfield, ME) of Southern Aroostook Community School in Dyer Brook, ME, and infielder Jack Edelstein (Rochester, NY) of Brighton High School in Rochester, NY, have deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon baseball program for Fall 2026. Kuindersma will study Exercise Science with a Pre-Athletic Training concentration, while Edelstein will study Outdoor Education, Leadership and Tourism with an Adventure Education concentration.
Lyndon Head Coach Cameron Curler believes that Kuindersma and Edelstein will be great additions to his program. "We are excited to welcome Jack and Daniel to the Hornet Baseball family, Both young men embody the type of student-athlete we want in our program. They are proven leaders, outstanding students, and highly competitive baseball players who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence both on and off the field. It was evident when they visited campus in the fall that not only were we a great academic fit for them, but that these young men will fit into our program well, also."
Kuindersma arrives at Lyndon as one of northern Maine's most accomplished student-athletes and a proven leader behind the plate. A four-year varsity player and team captain for Southern Aroostook, Kuindersma was selected to the 2026 Maine Baseball Coaches Association North C/D Senior All-Star Team and earned All-Aroostook League honors in both 2025 and 2026.
A durable and dependable catcher, Kuindersma catches more than 45 games annually between his spring, summer, and fall teams. Defensively, he consistently demonstrates elite receiving and game-management skills, recording fewer than five passed balls per season while throwing out more than 18 runners annually. At the plate, he carries a career .330 batting average and an impressive .575 on-base percentage.
In addition to his high school accomplishments, Kuindersma competed for the Western Valley Shiretowners 18U AA program in Woodstock, NB, during the summer of 2025, helping lead the club to a runner-up finish at the New Brunswick Provincial Championships.
Academically, Kuindersma has excelled throughout his high school career. He ranks fourth in his graduating class with a 3.7 GPA and will graduate Magna Cum Laude with honors. His academic and leadership accomplishments include the 2026 Maine Principals Association Principal Award recipient, 2025 Maine Dirigo State selection, 2024 Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) recipient, National Honors Society, and the Aroostook League Leadership Conference.
Shiretowners Head Coach Jami Moore praised Kuindersma's leadership and dedication. "Daniel is the first one at the field and very often the last to leave. He prepares with purpose and he competes with pride, not just for himself but for the group around him. As a catcher, he understands the responsibility that comes with the position. He leads quietly but effectively. He builds trust with his pitchers and brings a steady presence that every team needs."
Edelstein joins the Hornets after a standout career at Brighton, where he has been a three-year varsity starter and was selected as a team captain for the 2026 season. Following the 2025 season, Edelstein earned Second Team All-Monroe County Division II honors. He was selected to participate in Monroe County's Exceptional Senior Game, featuring top players from the county's East and West squads. He has also been recognized as a Scholar-Athlete during both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years for maintaining a GPA above 3.0.
Among his most prestigious recognitions, Edelstein was named the 2026 recipient of Brighton's Bruce Proper Award, an honor established in 1985 to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional dedication, leadership, character, and commitment to their communities.
Off baseball field, Edelstein has distinguished himself through his work with the National Ski Patrol. He was recognized as the Outstanding Young Adult Patroller in the Genesee Valley Region in 2024 and currently serves as a National Ski Patrol Young Adult Patroller. He will also compete in his third consecutive summer season with the Rayson Miller American Legion Post 899 baseball program.
Brighton Head Coach Jason Wasserman spoke highly of Edelstein's impact on and off the field. "I have been coaching baseball for close to 30 years and I can honestly say he is easily one of my favorite athletes I have ever coached. He is a throwback kid, who comes to practice early each day, puts in a hard day's work, stays focused, is coachable, and is a great leader."
Kuindersma and Edelstein are the first two announced commits in Lyndon's Fall 2026 class. The Hornets expect to announce additional commits in the near future, as the program builds upon a 2026 campaign that saw it make their first post-season appearance since 2019.
