Steven Friscia takes over for Paige Daley as VTSU Lyndon head volleyball coach

Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon has named Steven Friscia its new Head Volleyball Coach.  Friscia succeeds Paige Daley, who stepped down recently due to professional commitments outside of athletics.

Friscia is a 2023 graduate of then Northern Vermont University-Lyndon.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and an Associate of Science degree in Human Services.  As an undergraduate, Friscia was a student assistant coach with the Hornet volleyball program in 2022, and a four-year member and senior captain of the Hornet baseball team.  Post-graduation, Friscia was an assistant volleyball coach in 2024, and has been an assistant baseball coach for the past three seasons.

Friscia is a 2019 graduate of Smithtown High School West in Smithtown, NY, where he played two years of varsity volleyball.  He currently works as the Restorative Justice Coordinator at The Arlington School in St. Johnsbury, VT.

Daley, a 2022 NVU-Lyndon graduate, moved the Hornet program forward during her two years at the helm.  Her 2025 squad won more matches than any Hornet team since 2014.  She also served as assistant women's lacrosse coach for two years, before the program was put on hiatus.  Daley was a multi-sport athlete as an undergraduate at Lyndon, competing in volleyball, lacrosse, softball, tennis, and cross country.

Daley reflected on her time leading the program.  "I would like to say a thank you to everyone in the Athletic department who gave me the opportunity as Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball team.  It has been an honor to coach at Lyndon as an alum and I will forever cherish the moments and memories from my time there.  I wish nothing but the best for the athletes and coaches for the future of the program!"

VTSU Lyndon Interim Senior Associate Director of Athletics Cameron Curler appreciated Daley's efforts.  "I would like to thank Paige Daley for her service to Lyndon Volleyball.  She stepped into a challenging situation and worked tirelessly to provide stability and growth for the program, including recruiting a strong 2026 class.  There is no question that she leaves Hornet Volleyball in a better place than when she arrived, and we are grateful for her contributions and commitment to our student-athletes."

Friscia is excited to continue the upward trajectory of the program.  "I am honored and excited to be taking on the role of Head Volleyball Coach.  I want to thank Cameron Curler for this amazing opportunity along with Paige Daley for her commitment and dedication over the last two seasons.  This is a great opportunity for both myself and the student-athletes to build upon an up and coming program and to continue to create a new identity for Hornet Volleyball.  My goal is to create a competitive environment where these athletes can have fun, grow as individuals, and take their skills to the next level.  I am excited to get to work in the fall and can't wait to take the court with both our returning class and our incoming student-athletes."

Curler believes that Friscia is the right person at the right time.  "I am excited to announce Steven Friscia as the next leader of our volleyball program.  Steven has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership as a student, as a member of the volleyball coaching staff in 2022, and most recently as an assistant baseball coach.  He brings high standards, along with the knowledge, energy, and passion necessary to continue building on the program's momentum.  We are confident that Steven is the right person to lead Hornet Volleyball and help take the program to new heights."

Emily Anderson '25 will remain on the staff as an assistant coach.  Curler sees the continuity that Anderson brings as a plus for the program.  "I am grateful for Assistant Coach Emily Anderson's continued dedication to the program.  Coach Anderson is an alumnus of the program and has decided to stay on staff.  Our student-athletes are going to benefit greatly from the tutelage of Coach Friscia and Coach Anderson moving forward!"

Friscia is scheduled to make his head coaching debut on September 5th, when the Hornets compete in the annual Vermont Volleyball Classic, hosted this year by Vermont State University Castleton.
