Six VTSU Lyndon basketball players named Academic All-District

Lyndonville, VT - Seven Vermont State University Lyndon basketball players, four women and three men, have been named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team, as announced on Tuesday.

The student athletes honored include:

  • Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY), a senior men's basketball tri-captain and History major with a 3.80 grade point average.  He is now a two-time Academic All-District selection, and has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court twice.  Doyle started in all 25 games this past season and averaged 10.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest.  He was the third leading rebounder in the North Atlantic Conference.  Doyle played three seasons with the Hornets after transferring from Cazenovia College following his freshman season.  He finished his career with 497 points and 463 rebounds.
  • Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY), a graduate student men's basketball tri-captain.  He is currently pursing his Master of Business Administration degree and has a graduate GPA of 3.85.  He earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration last May and finished with a 3.94 GPA.  At Commencement he was named the Outstanding Graduating Senior.  He is a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection and was named to the NABC Honors Court twice.  Gonyea is a two-time 1st Team NAC All-Conference selection.  He was the North Atlantic Conference Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2024-25, and was named to the D3hoops.com Region 1 All-District 3rd Team a year ago.  Gonyea averaged 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game and was 3rd in the NAC in scoring this season.  He concluded his career with 1,551 points, the most by any Lyndon player in the modern Division III era.  He also grabbed 332 rebounds and handed out 215 assists.
  • Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT), a senior co-captain and Interdisciplinary Studies major with a 3.80 GPA.  She transferred to Lyndon from Whatcom Community College following her sophomore year.  This past season Huntington played in 23 games, making 22 starts.  She averaged 9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game and led the NAC in assists.  She has played in 47 games in her Lyndon career and has scored 390 points, grabbed 237 rebounds, and dished out 193 assists.
  • Kiara Mack (Milton, VT), a senior women's basketball player and Restorative Justice/Criminal Justice double major with a 3.88 GPA.  This is the fifth consecutive season and the third sport where Mack has earned All-District honors.  She was named an at-large selection as a women's lacrosse player in Spring 2024, and was named in volleyball in Fall 2024 and Fall 2025 in addition to being named in basketball a year ago.  Mack was a 3rd Team NAC All-Conference selection this past season.  She averaged 12.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.0 blocked shots per game this past season.  She led the NAC in blocks and was fourth in rebounding.  Mack concludes her Lyndon career with 720 points, 584 rebounds, and 113 blocked shots.
  • Chad Martin (Henniker, NH), a senior tri-captain and Exercise Science major with a 3.71 GPA.  He earned Academic All-District honors for the second time, and was also a NABC Honors Court selection for 2024-25.  He played in 22 games this season, starting in each of them and averaging 1.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per contest.  Martin played in 84 games over his four-year Lyndon career.  He scored 128 points, grabbed 221 rebounds, and recorded 115 assists.
  • Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT), a senior women's basketball player and Exercise Science major with a 3.73 GPA.  She played in all 26 games this season and averaged 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.  Her 54 made three-point goals were the second most in the NAC this season.  Whitcomb is Lyndon's modern era leader in career made three-pointers with 194 and games played with 101.  Over her four years she scored 716 points, grabbed 315 rebounds, and handed out 154 assists.

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.  Gonyea is among those selected to advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.  First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 14, 2026 (men) and April 15, 2026 (women).

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
