Canadian defensive specialist Sydney Clunis commits to VTSU Lyndon volleyball

Lyndonville, VT - Sydney Clunis (Windsor, ON) of Riverside Secondary School in Windsor, ON, has deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon volleyball program for the Fall 2025 semester.  She will study Criminal Justice.

Clunis, a libero and defensive specialist, was team captain and a four-year varsity player at Riverside.  She helped lead the Stingers to the Windsor Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association championship and the South Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association championship in both her sophomore and senior seasons.  This year she also led Riverside to a 5th place finish in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations provincial championship tournament.

Clunis was a WECSSAA 2nd Team All-Star as a senior.  She was her team's Most Valuable Player as a sophomore, and received the Coach's Award as a freshman and a junior.  Senior year team awards and statistics are not yet available.  Through the first three years of her career she recorded 458 digs and 11 service aces.  She averaged 3.34 digs per set and posted a passing Quality Average of 2.06.

Clunis is a strong student, having been named to the Honor Roll at Riverside three times.  In addition to competing for the Stingers, she has also played club volleyball with the South County Bandits for the past seven years.

VTSU Lyndon head coach Paige Daley is thrilled to have Clunis join her program.  "I'm excited to see what Sydney brings to the court this fall as a Hornet.  I can't wait to be able to see her grow as a player.  She is someone who brings a strong work ethic and want to our program.  She's a player who is willing to give it her all in every set and she has strong communication skills on the court.  I believe she is a great addition to our Hornet family.  Welcome Sydney!"

Riverside head coach Josh Muldoon shared his assessment of Clunis.  "Her work ethic set the standard, her leadership lifted the team, and her influence brought out the best in her teammates.  She was more than a captain; she was the heart of the team."

Clunis joins Olivia Cordova (Craig, CO) in VTSU Lyndon's Fall 2025 class.  The Hornets expect to announce additional commits in the near future.
