Northfield, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon volleyball team wrapped up play in the annual Vermont Volleyball Classic on Sunday morning, taking on in-state rival Vermont State Johnson at Norwich University. Despite a strong defensive effort, the Hornets were unable to overcome the Badgers' serving pressure and fell in three sets, 25–17, 25–14, and 25–12.
Junior middle hitter Kiara Mack (Woinooski, VT) led the way for Lyndon with an all-around performance. Mack finished with five kills and four blocks while adding seven digs, accounting for a team-high nine points. Sydney Clunis (Windsor, ON) and Olivia Cordova (Craig, CO) each contributed a pair of service aces, giving the Hornets energy from the back line, while Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) collected five digs to help anchor the defense.
Lyndon battled competitively in the opening set, staying within striking distance before Johnson pulled away late. The Hornets continued to compete hard in the final two frames, highlighted by several extended rallies and a strong presence at the net, but the Badgers' serving proved to be the difference. Johnson tallied 25 aces in the match, led by 13 from senior outside hitter Max Ludlow, who also posted 13 kills. Setter Delaney Gross orchestrated the Badger attack with 21 assists.
With the result, the Hornets drop to 0–3 on the young season, while Johnson improves to 2–0.
Lyndon will return to action next Saturday when they play a pair of matches at the Smith College Bonnie May Invitational. The Hornets will square off against Bridgewater State University at noon, and follow that with a 2:00 pm matchup against Dean College.
