Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon sophomore men's basketball player Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the week of December 8th through December 14th, as announced on Monday evening. This honor comes after McIntyre was yesterday named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the same time period.
D3Hoops.com, the leading news and information source for NCAA Division III basketball, names a Team of the Week, recognizing the top men's and women's performances at each position from the previous week throughout the season. McIntyre is the second Lyndon player to be so honored in the 29-year history of the honor, which was first issued on January 6, 1998. Current Hornet teammate Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) was the first ever Lyndon player to be selected when he was named to the Team of the Week for the week of December 2nd through 8th, 2024.
In Lyndon's only game last week McIntyre erupted for 39 points, including the game winner with 1.3 seconds to go in overtime, lifting the Hornets to a 108-107 win over rival Vermont State University Johnson, the Hornets' third straight conference road win. He added a team best six assists, five rebounds, and three steals, while shooting 52% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line.
McIntyre is currently averaging 28.0 points per game, tops in the North Atlantic Conference. He is the leading scorer nationally across all of NCAA Division III basketball.
McIntyre and the Hornets will be traveling to Miami Gardens, FL, later this week to compete in the annual Cruizin Classic at Saint Thomas University. Lyndon's first game will be on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm, when they tip off against Saint Vincent College of Latrobe, PA.
