Essex High School product Eric Hernandez Jr. commits to Hornet baseball

Lyndonville, VT - Eric Hernandez Jr. (Fairfax, VT) of Essex High School in Essex Junction, VT, has deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon baseball program for 2025-2026.  Hernandez will study Business.

Hernandez pitched and played first base and outfield for Essex.  The 6'7" left hander also saw time on the mound for American Legion Post 91 in Colchester, VT, where he posted a 3-1 record with a 3.00 earned run average, two saves, and 25 strikeouts.

Hernandez is an Honor Roll student in high school.  He is also a multi-sport athlete who plays football, basketball, and volleyball.

VTSU Lyndon baseball coach Cameron Curler has targeted Hernandez for some time.  "Eric is someone who has been on our radar for the last two years as his summer coaches have been Lyndon Baseball alumni (Reece Tanguay '16 & Matt Brault '23).  One of our goals has been to identify Vermonters who can make a significant impact and help the program take the next step.  The sky is the limit as far as the type of player that Eric can be.  He is a young man of great character and personality, and I strongly feel that Lyndon is a place where he will thrive."

Essex baseball coach Justin Bissonnette described Hernandez as "A versatile hitter who can hit for power, contact, and spray the ball to all fields.  Always ready to compete and win the battle."

Hernandez is the first recruit in Lyndon's 2025-2026 class.  The Hornets expect to announce additional commitments in the near future.
