Delhi, NY - Running with a complete lineup for the first time this season, the Vermont State University Lyndon men's cross country team finished eighth in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted by the State University of New York at Delhi. The University of Maine at Farmington captured conference honors, placing five runners in the top ten to easily outdistance runner up Maine Maritime Academy.
As he has for most races the past two seasons, junior Nathan Moore (Norwich, CT) was again Lyndon's top finisher. Moore completed the 8k course in a time of 31:21, good for 29th place, his best finish in three NAC Championships. UMaine-Farmington's Justin Castaldo captured individual honors, crossing the finish line in 26:02, 53 seconds in front of Maine Maritime's Ponce Saltysiak.
Quinn Bressler (Norton, MA), running his first race of 2024, finished in 44th place with a time of 38:23. A trio of runners in their first intercollegiate race, Jason Nofsker (Virginia Beach, VA), Ben Albert (Falmouth, MA), and Stephen Wutzl (Brookfioeld, CT), were Lyndon's other scoring runners.
Lyndon head coach Chris Chichester was extremely pleased with his team's showing in adverse conditions. "The Hornets turned in their best NAC championship result since 2021 with a gutsy performance in cold, wet and windy conditions. We were led by team captain, Nathan Moore who ran a stellar race as always, clocking his second fastest time on an 8k course. I was very proud of all 5 runners who ran with great enthusiasm and competitiveness. Watch out for some very fast times from this Hornet team at Regionals, especially if there is more favorable weather."
Lyndon will compete next in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday, November 16th. Connecticut College will serve as the host school for the race, which will be held at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT.
