Northfield, VT - With three runners making their season debuts, the Vermont State University Lyndon men's cross country team came away from Friday's Norwich Cadet Invitational with many encouraging signs. While the Hornets did not post a team score, all four Lyndon runners in the race ran for personal bests over the 8K distance. Host Norwich University outran Saint Joseph's College of Maine to capture team honors.
Abraham Olsen (Burlington, VT) paced the Hornets in his first outing of the season. Olsen crossed the finish line in 30:06.20, good for 15th place and a spot in the awards circle. Jacob Pellitier of Saint Joseph's took individual honors in thr field of 75 runners with a time of 26:26.50.
Nathan Moore (Norwich, CT) also ran a strong race, finishing 20th with a time of 30:43.10. Two other Hornets, Wilson Sabal (Lyndonville, VT) and Patrick George (Bristol, CT), ran their first intercollegiate race. Sabal's time was 42:31.90 and George finished in 51:55.40.
Hornet head coach Chris Chichester was pleased with his team's performance. "They say success is when preparation meets opportunity and I can't think of a better example of this than today's race. All 4 Lyndon runners ran personal records, and the highlight of the day goes to Abe who placed 15th and made it to the awards circle. We to continue assemble our team and look to keep this trend of great racing going."
Lyndon will continue its preparation for the North Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, at the State University of New York at Delhi.
