Waterford, CT - Vermont State University Lyndon men's cross country runners Nathan Moore (Norwich, CT) and Wilson Sabal (Lyndonville, VT) both ran personal best times over the 8K distance at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship, held at Harkness Memorial State Park and hosted by Connecticut College. The Hornets did not post a complete team score,
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute outran Williams College to take the team championship. Nathan Tassey of Roger Williams College took individual honors, completing the 8K course in 24:03.4, just over eight seconds faster than Charles Namiot of Williams.
Moore made his way around the course in 30:38.0, good for 147th place, while Sabal finished in 40:38.6. Both times were the fastest this season for each runner of=ver the 8K distance.
Hornet cross country coach Chris Chichester was pleased with the effort of his runners, but disappointed that the Hornets couldn't post a team score. "We had to scratch several athletes from the lineup last minute unfortunately, but our remaining runners' performances today were fantastic. Nate and Wilson both ran their fastest times on an 8k course, despite the powerful wind. I'm looking forward to add some new recruits next season and watch the hard work of our returning runners led by Captain, Nathan Moore continue to translate into faster times and more competitive placing."
The Hornets concluded the season, and will look to build to a full, competitive lineup next fall.
