Box Score 2 Lynn, MA - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon was defeated by Fisher College in both games of their non-conference baseball doubleheader on Friday evening. The Falcons edged the Hornets, 2-0, in the opening game and followed with a 4-1 win in the nightcap. With the sweep the Falcons improve to 19-15 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 2-13.
Game 1 - Fisher 2, NVU-Lyndon 0
The opener unfolded as a pitchers' duel between Lyndon's Carlos Rodriguez (La Mirada, CA) and Fisher's Christian Dow. Rodriguez scattered seven hits and struck out five while walking only one in his complete game outing. Dow was even more in control, allowing only a second inning single to Ryder Thornton (Essex, VT) and a sixth inning infield single to John Mahoney (Navarre, FL). He struck out three without yielding a walk and earned the win.
Fisher broke through with a run in their half of the second inning when Alejandro Sola's two-out triple scored Emanuel Rosado. The Falcons added a run in the sixth when Elijah Perez reached on an infield hit, stole second, and scored on Rosado's two-out base hit.
Game 2 - Fisher 4, NVU-Lyndon 1
The Hornets jumped in front in the top of the first inning of the nightcap on Skyler Bushey's (St. Albans, VT) two-out solo home run over the left field wall. The Falcons responded by plating four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jacob Deziel walked leading off. Nicholas Lucchese followed with a base hit, and Dexiel came around to score on a Hornet throwing error. After Ivanuel Hernandez was hit by a pitch, Perez tripled in both runners. Perez then scored on Miguel Torres' sacrifice fly.
From then on, Lyndon starter Jacob Wechselblatt (Reston, VA) and Fisher starter Ronald Luke both settled in and kept both teams off of the scoreboard. Wechselblatt allowed two earned runs and five hits over his five innings of work before giving way to Dylan Crump (Falls Village, CT), who threw a scoreless sixth. Luke picked up the win while allowing four hits and striking out three over six innings. William Carpenter came on for a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
Perez and Nicholas Lucchese had two hits apiece for Fisher., Ryder Thornton (Essex, VT) had a single and a double for the Hornets. TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) also had a base hit.
Lyndon will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Lesley University for a 12:00 noon doubleheader.
