Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL - Carthage College swept Saturday's college baseball doubleheader with Northern Vermont University-Lyndon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Firebirds took the opener, 10-1, then prevailed, 8-3, in the nightcap. Lyndon is now 0-5 on the season. The games were the season openers for Carthage
Game 1 - Carthage 10, NVU-Lyndon 1
Crthage jumped on Lyndon pitching with five runs and five hits in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Colton Klein had a big game at the plate with three hits, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Chase Gibson had three RBIs for the Firebirds.
The Hornets got their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Skyler Bushey (St. Albans, VT) led off with a double, moved to third on a passed ball, and came in on Jordan Cane's (Merrimac, MA) ground out.
Carthage starter Dante Guarascio went five innings to collect the win. Hornet starter Jacob Wechselblatt absorbed the loss.
Game 2 - Carthage 8, NVU-Lyndon 3
Carthage first baseman Bryce Prybylinski went five for five with three runs batted in to lead the Firebirds. Cody Tostrud added a pair of base hits. Bushey had a pair of hits and Matt Doherty (Gardner, MA) drove in two runs for the Hornets.
Kyle McKinnon, the second of four Carthage pitchers, picked up the win. Dale Ostermann (Harrington, DE) took the loss.
The Hornets will face Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in a doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
