Hornets see wining streak come to an end at Thomas

Box Score

Waterville, ME - Thomas College jumped on Northern Vermont University-Lyndon for 16 runs in the first three innings en route to a 25-3 victory in Thursday's North Atlantic Conference baseball game.  The Hornets saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end, as Thomas pulled into a second place tie with Lyndon in the NAC East Division, with both teams at 9-6 in conference play.  The Terriers improved to 10-8 on the season while the Hornets fall to 9-9.

The Hornets jumped in front in the top of the first inning, as Ryder Thornton (Essex, VT) led things off with a base hit and later came around to score on Jordan Cane's (Merrimac, MA) single.  That lead would prove to be short lived, however, as the hosts sent ten men to the plate and put five runs on the board.  Bradley Smith's two-run double was the big hit in the inning.

The Terriers continued to swing the hot bats in the next two innings.  In the second inning they plated six more runs while sending 11 men up to bat.  Then in the third they tacked on five more runs on five hits, batting around for the third inning in a row in the process.

Ryan Kallelmann had a big game at the plate for the Terriers.  He collected four hits in six at bats and drove in five runs.  Shane MacNeill added three hits and drove in six.  Jacob Perry also had three hits, with three runs scored and two runs batted in.  Codi Smith (Hartford, VT) led the Hornets with a pair of doubles.  Cane also had two hits for Lyndon.

Jacob Lacroix started for Thomas and went four innings to pick up the win.  Hornet starter Cooper Whitehouse (South Berwick, ME) was saddled with the loss.

The same two teams will continue their pivotal series with a pair of doubleheaders in Lyndonville this weekend.  First pitch both Saturday and Sunday will be at 1:00 pm.
