Game 1 - Husson 2, NVU-Lyndon 1
The opener was a pitchers' duel between Lyndon's Sam Ognenoff (Brattleboro, VT) and Husson's Hunter O'Connor. Ognenoff went the distance and took the hard luck loss while only six hits, striking out three, and walking only one. Meanwhile O'Connor went five innings and didn't factor in the decision despite only allowing three hits and striking out two. Alex Smith came on in the sixth inning to pick up the win and Ryan Robb came in for the save in the seventh inning.
Akira Warren had a pair of hits and scored a run to pace the Eagles. Jackson Curtis had the game winning RBI when he drove in David LeBlanc in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jordan Cane (Merrimac, MA) had a pair of hits and drove in Lyndon's only run. Codi Smith's (Hartford, VT) double and singles from Tyler Roberge (Essex, VT) and Matt Brault (Milton, VT) were the other Hornet hits.
Game 2 - Husson 10, NVU-Lyndon 2
After the Eagles had scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, the Hornets tied things in the top of the fifth. After Parker Perron (Barton, VT) led off with a walk and Sean Cavanaugh (Londonderry, NH) reached on a fielder's choice, Ryder Thornton (Essex, VT) doubled home Cavanaugh and scored the tying run on TJ Santaw's (Newport, VT) base hit, making it 2-2.
However Husson broke the game open with eight runs, six of them unearned, in the bottom of the fifth inning of the nightcap. Kobe Rogerson's double and Akira Warren's two-run base hit were the big blows in the rally.
Ryan Penney, the fourth of seven Husson pitchers earned the win. Hornet starter Codi Smith took the loss.
Lyndon will travel back to Maine on Thursday to kick off another five-game series. The Hornets will face the University of Maine at Farmington, with first pitch set for 3:30 pm. The Hornets and Beavers will then square off in a pair of doubleheaders at Lyndon on Saturday and Sunday.
