Box Score Auburndale, FL - Neumann University plated eight runs in the top of the first inning and Northern Vermont University-Lyndon never recovered, falling 19-2 in Friday's baseball game at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The game was Neumann's season opener, while the Hornets remain winless in nine games.
Zach Ray had a big day at the plate for Neumann with three hits, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Andrew Larosa drove in three runs while Joe Murray, Marty Cortellessa, and Tre'Zhan Selby all drove in a pair. The Knights pounded out 15 hits from 13 different batters, including five doubles and Alex Layton's triple.
For the Hornets, Caleb Laroche (Franklin, VT) had a double and scored a run. Tyler Murro (Littleton, NH), Michael Pena (New City, NY), Tyler Roberge (Essex, VT), and Chris April (Rollinsford, NH) had Lyndon's other hits.
Billy Hunt picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief, yielding two hits and delivering two strikeouts. Hornet starter Codi Smith (Hartford, VT) took the loss.
The Hornets wrap up their week in Florida on Sunday morning when they face Saint Vicent College at 9:45 am on Field #5 at Lake Myrtle Park.
