Box Score 2 Auburndale, FL - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon held an 8-2 lead through four innings of the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Hanover College at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Hanover rallied to tie the game in the home half of the seventh inning, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to come away with a 9-8 victory. The Panthers had earlier defeated the Hornets, 10-2, in game one. With the sweep, Hanover improves to 3-2 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 0-3.
Game 1 - Hanover 10, NVU-Lyndon 2
Hanover jumped on the Hornets for four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Braden Imel and Charlie Burton each homered for Hanover and Jake Schaefer had a pair of hits. Caleb Laroche (Franklin, VT) reached base three times for the Hornets, posting a double and a pair of walks. Tyler Roberge (Essex, VT) and Tucker Root (Middlefield, CT) had Lyndon's other hits.
Hanover starter Justin Pope went the distance to earn the win, striking out 11 Hornets in the process. TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) started for the Hornets and took the loss.
Game 2 - Hanover 9, NVU-Lyndon 8 (9 innings)
Mark Walkenhorst's one out base hit drove in Jacob Dupps with the winning run in the nightcap. Walkenhorst drove in three runs to pace the Panthers. Andrew Littlefield homered for Hanover. Root reached base three times for the Hornets, scoring on each occasion.
The Hornets continue their Florida trip on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Vermont rival Castleton University. First pitch of the opener is scheduled for 11:00 am on Field 4 at Lake Myrtle Park.
