Johnson, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team defeated NVU-Johnson for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon, coming away with a 5-4 North Atlantic Conference victory.  With the win the Hornets improve to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in NAC play.  The Badgers remain winless in six starts and 0-2 in conference.  Lyndon also clinches a point in the NVU President's Cup Challenge, the annual competition for athletic superiority between the two NVU campuses.

The Hornets grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles, as the #2 team of Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) and Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) defeated Johnson's Iris Serrano and Kayla Hammond 8-2, and the #3 team of Oo Mai Be (Winooski, VT) and Susmita Mangar (Winooski, VT) downed the Johnson duo of Sarah Sylvain and Katelyn Tirrito, 8-5.  The Badgers took first doubles, with Grace Page and Samantha Kershner posting an 8-1 win over Ro Ze Yar (Winooski, VT) and Erica Hayakawa (Fuuoka, Japan).

The two teams split six singles matches.  Jackson was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Serrano at #3, Achinda defeated Hammond 6-2, 6-4 at #4, and Be defeated Kristen Tritto 6-4, 6-0 at #5.  Johnson won #1, #2, and #6 as Page, Kershner, and Katelyn Tritto defeated Emilie Dube (Bristol, CT), Rebekah Delgado (Jersey City, NJ), and Yar respectively.

The Hornets return to the courts on Wednesday when they travel to Plymouth State University for a 4:00 pm non-conference matchup.
