Hornet women's tennis wraps up their season with three matches in Maine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Waterville, ME - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's tennis team traveled to Maine on Sunday and played three matches to conclude their season.  They started out with a doubleheader at Husson University in the morning, then traveled to Thomas College for their finale in the afternoon.  Unfortunately for the Hornets, they came up short in all three contests, including two North Atlantic Conference tilts.  Husson moved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the NAC with their sweep, while Thomas improved to 6-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference.  Lyndon finished the season 3-8, with a 1-4 mark in the NAC.

Match #1 - Husson 7, VTSU Lyndon 0

In the conference matchup, Husson took the doubles point with a forfeit win at number three, followed by 6-0 wins at numbers one and two.  Kayla Lockhart and Anah Albert defeated Megan Richardson (Essex Junction, VT) and Kaylee Moore (Brandon, VT) in the first flight, while Olivia Christensen and Mallory Beaulieu bested Alexandria Bingham (Barre, VT) and Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) in the second flight.

The Eagles continued their dominance in singles play.  Lockhart defeated Richardson at one, and Katelyn Cotter defeated Bingham at three, both by 6-1, 6-0 margins.  Albert bested Moore at two, and Sadie May downed Delgado-Juarez at four, both without dropping a game.  Husson tacked on forfeit wins at fifth and sixth singles.

Match #2 - Husson 6, VTSU Lyndon 0

The non-conference match began with singles and was played to decision.  The Eagles were spotted two points with forfeit wins at five and six.  Husson then took the other four singles contests to clinch the match without the need to play doubles.  Grace Hansen was a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Bingham at three, and the Eagles took the other three flights in straight sets without dropping a game.

Match #3 - Thomas 7, VTSU Lyndon 0

After the two morning matches in Bangor, the Hornets traveled to Waterville for another NAC matchup, this one against Thomas.  The Terriers began by sweeping the three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point.  Lyndon forfeited third doubles, then took the first and second flights without dropping a game.  Lily Daigle and Taylor Juhase bested Richardson and Moore at one, and Gigi Bhagat and Sarah Mack downed Bingham and Delgado-Juarez at two.

Singles play was also all Thomas.  After forfeit wins at five and six, the Terriers took the four remaining flights without dropping a game.  It was Juhase over Richardson at one, Bhagat over Moore at two, Daigle over Bingham at three, and Mack over Delgado-Juarez at four.

Despite the rough day, the Hornet program made tangible progress this season.  Lyndon's three wins were the most by the program since 2019, and the Hornets picked up their first NAC win over that span.  Lyndon looks to continue to move the program forward in 2027.
