Hornet baseball sweeps UMaine-Farmington

Nashua, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon baseball team picked up two big North Atlantic Conference wins over UMaine-Farmington on Saturday afternoon.  The Hornets held off the Beavers in game one, 5-3, and got the bats going in the nightcap to post an 11-4 win.  Lyndon improves to 10-17 overall and 5-3 in NAC play while UMF falls to 9-13 on the season and 6-6 in conference.

Game 1 - NVU-Lyndon 5, UMaine-Farmington 3

Tyler Davis (Barre, VT) started on the mound for the Hornets, going five soild innings, giving up four hits while striking out seven, and earning the win.  John Boulay (Dighton, MA) threw two innings, giving up three hits and three runs with three strikeouts and picking up the save.

Ben Rollins (Lincolnville, ME) went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI and Tucker Root (Middlefield, CT) went 2-3 with two RBI and one run to lead Lyndon.  Noah Barton (South Burlington, VT) went 1-3 with one RBI and one run while Jason Doris (Lincoln, RI), Caleb Laroche (Franklin, VT), and Ryder Thornton (Essex, VT) each scored one run.

For UMF, Kevin Carter went 2-3 at the plate with two RBI and Justin Rodrigue went 1-4 with one RBI.  Jake Bessey, Chase Malloy and Derek Bowen each notched one run for the Beavers.

Gavin Arsenault threw 5.2 innings, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs with two walks and seven strikeouts

Game 2 - NVU-Lyndon 11, UMaine-Farmington 4

Matt Page (Groton, VT) started for the Hornets and picked up the win, throwing four innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs.  Matt Tritto (Derry, NH)  threw two shutout innings innings and Cooper Whitehouse (South Berwick, ME) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh.

Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT) led the Lyndon attack, going 2-5 with four RBI.  Root went 3-4 with two RBI and three runs.  Barton went 3-4 with one RBI and two runs while Sam Ognenoff (Brattleboro, VT) went 2-4 with one run and one RBI..

Ryan Pratt started on the mound for UMF, throwing 3.1 innings, giving up seven hits and six earned runs with four strikeouts.  Kevin Carter threw an inning and two-thirds, giving up six hits and two earned runs.  Patrick Fallon finished the game for the Beavers, throwing one inning.

Malloy went 1-3 at the plate with two RBI for the Beavers.  Bowen went 3-4 with two RBI.  Hunter LaBossiere, Zach Hartsgrove, Ryan Simard, and Bessey each tallied a hit.

The Hornets will host another four-game NAC series next weekend.  Lyndon will play UMaine-Presque Isle twice on Friday and twice more on Saturday.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm each day.
