Box Score Northfield, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's soccer team couldn't get anything going on offense and came up on the short end of a 4-0 result in Saturday's season opening contest.
At the 8:47 mark the Cadets' Nick Tantillo converted a pass from Amerlin Nemeye for the only goal of the opening half. The score stayed at 1-0 until the 65th minute, when Matt Bento scored with an assist from Andre Rodriguez. Bento found Nemeye a little over eight minutes later, and the Hornets scored an own goal a few seconds after that to account for the final margin.
Hornet goalkeepers Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT) and Dennis Farnham III (Orono, ME) had a busy evening in goal. Derbyshire stopped 15 of 19 shots on goal and Farnham stopped both shots that he faced. Norwich goalkeeper Brendan Germano didn't face a shot on goal en route to the clean sheet. The Cadets outshot the Hornets, 38-3, over the full match.
Lyndon returns to action on Tuesday evening, when they travel to Castleton University for a 7:00 pm start.
