Bangor, ME - The Lyndon State College baseball team completed their four game series at Husson University by garnering a split of Sunday afternoon's doubleheader.  As was the case yesterday, the Hornets received two outstanding pitching performances, as did the host Eagles.  Lyndon prevailed, 2-0, in the opener before Husson salvaged the final game of the series, 1-0.  The Hornets are now 18-16 on the season and 14-6 in North Atlantic Conference play.  Husson is 14-22 overall and 9-13 in the NAC.

Game 1 - Lyndon 2, Husson 0

James Mundy (Brentwood, NH) threw a four hit shutout to best Husson's Austin Smith (Lincoln, ME).  Mundy allowed four hits while striking out two and walking five.  Smith also went the distance, yielding seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

Both pitchers kept the other team off the scoreboard through five innings.  The Hornets finally broke through in the top of the sixth.  With one out, Codi Smith (Hartford, VT) was hit by a pitch.  He moved to second on Zak Johnson's (East Hampton, CT) ground out, then came around to score the first run of the game on a Ryder Thorton (Essex, VT) single.

Mundy was able to strand two Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Lyndon was then able to put a second run on the board in the top of the seventh.  Sam Ogenoff (Brattleboro, VT) led off the inning with a single to right.  He stole second, then scored on Ryan Cordiero's (Rollinsford, NH) single.  Mundy was able to shut the door on Husson in the bottom of the seventh to secure the Hornet victory.

Game 2 - Husson 1, Lyndon 0

The getaway game featured yet another stellar pair of pitching performances.  Jake Jourdain (Becket, MA) started for the Hornets and yielded only a single run in the top of the first.  Nick Guerrette (Hermon, ME) walked to open the ball game, then Jourdain hit the next batter, Mike Wong (Lewiston, ME).  After the runners were moved over on a sacrifice bunt, Sam Huston (Bangor, ME) singled in Guerrette with what would prove to be the only run of the game.

Jourdain settled in the rest of the way, as he shut the Eagles out over the final five turns at bat.  His final line showed one run and three hits allowed, with four strikeouts and three walks.

As good as Jourdain was, Husson's Cam Graham (Littleton, ME) was even better.  He no-hit the Hornets over seven innings, as the Hornets only managed three baserunners, drawing two walks and reaching once on an error.  Graham struck out seven on the day.

The Hornets will conclude their three-day Maine trip with a doubleheader at the University of Maine at Farmington on Monday.  First pitch will be at 1:00 pm.  Husson travels to Colby-Sawyer College on Monday.
