Box Score 2 New London, NH - The Lyndon State College baseball team plated 25 runs in today's doubleheader sweep of Colby-Sawyer College. The Hornets took the opener of the North Atlantic Conference twinbill 9-5, then picked up a 16-2 win in the nightcap. With the wins Lyndon improves to 12-14 on the season and 8-4 in NAC play. The Chargers fall to 3-20 overall and 1-11 in conference.
Game 1 - Lyndon 9, Colby-Sawyer 5
A six run second inning staked the Hornets to an early lead that they would never relenquish. The Hornets pounded out 12 hits with Sam Ogenoff (Brattleboro, Vt) leading the way, going three for four with a pair of runs batted in. Ryder Thorton (Essex, VT) had a big game with two hits, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Ryan Cordiero (Rollinsford, NH), Andre Eason Jr. (Waterbury, CT), and Caleb Laroche (Franklin, VT) each had a pair of hits as well. Doug Avelino (Woodstock, VT) had a pair of hits with a run scored and an rbi for the Chargers.
Codi Smith (Hartford, VT) pitched four innings to earn the win. He allowed four runs and four hits while striking out five. Matt Page (Groton, VT) allowed only an unearned run over the final three innings to pick up the save. AJ Cavossa (Foxborough, MA) started fro Colby-Sawyer, lasting only 1.2 innings and taking the loss.
Game 2 - Lyndon 16, Colby-Sawyer 2
The Hornet bats stayed hot in the nightcap. After two scoreless innings, the Hornets put five on the board in the top of the third inning and never looked back. Lyndon produced ten hits, and also benefited from eight Charger errors. Cordiero was the offensive star, delivering a pair of doubles that yeilded three runs batted in, and scoring three times himself. Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT) was three for four at the plate and drove in a pair of runs, and Eason drove in three on two doubles of his own. Tim Unczur (Danvers, MA) was three for three at the plate for Colby-Sawyer and Avelino was two for two and reached base all three plate appearances.
Ben Rollins (Lincolnville, ME) started and went five innings to pick up his first win of the season. He allowed one run on five hits, striking out three without walking a batter. John Boulay (Dighton, MA) and Johnson each pitched one inning in relief. Joe Scurto (Wilmingotn, MA) took the loss, going five innings for the Chargers, allowing nine runs, four earned, on four hits while striking out four and walking four.
The same two teams will square off again on Tuesday in another NAC doubleheader, this time at Lyndon's Skip Pound Baseball Complex. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
