Hornet men down Maine-Farmington for first win

Box Score
Farmington, ME - The Lyndon State College men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, handing the University of Maine at Farmington its first North Atlantic Conference loss, 89-82, in Farmington.  Lyndon is now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the NAC, while UMF falls to 3-3 and 2-1 in conference play,

UMF jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage and maintained the lead throughout most of the first half.  The Hornets chipped away, however, and when Kevin Love (Bristol, CT) covered a layup inside, Lyndon pulled even at 26-26 with 6:47 remaining in the half.  The Beavers then ran off six straight points to regain the advantage.  Lyndon again climbed back, and when Corey Frost ( Hamden, CT) drained a three-pointer with 50 seconds left in the half, the Hornets took their first lead at 38-37, which stood as the halftime margin.

Lyndon started the second half quickly, and after the Beavers' Bill Ruby (Gorham, ME) briefly gave UMF back the lead, Zach Knowlton (Franconia, NH) drained back to back three pointers to extend the Hornet advantage to 44-39.  UMF would score the next five points to tie things up, but another Frost three gave the Hornets the lead.  After UMF again tied things, Darnay Gray (Mashantucket, CT) scored inside to put Lyndon up for good.  The Hornets extended the advantage to as much as nine and came away with the seven point victory.

Gray led the Hornets with 27 points on 9/13 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds.  Kevin Love (Bristol, CT) recorded a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Frost and Charles Correa Jr. (Prospect Heights, RI) also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively, with Frost handing out four assists.

Riley Robinson (Dixfield, ME) topped five double figure scorers for the Beavers with 21 points.  Bill Ruby (Gorham, ME) chipped in 18 points and Milani Hicks (Scarborough, ME) added 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hornets return to action next Saturday when they host Colby-Sawyer College in a 3:00 pm North Atlantic Conference tip-off.  UMF hosts the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.
