Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine – The Lyndon State College baseball team finished up the weekend at Husson University with a 6-2 loss in the first game followed by a 16-2 loss in game two on Saturday afternoon.
Michael Pena led the Hornets going 2-for-5 on the day with one RBI and one run scored. Andrew Catalini and Nathan Stewart also added a hit and one run each.
Game 1
The Eagles jumped out to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning but the Hornets answered back with two in the top of the second. Catalani, Stewart, and Ryan Cordeiro all singled to load the bases. Pena's sacrifice fly to right scored Catalani and Jake Jourdain followed with a single to plate Stewart.
Neither team was able to get anything going again offensively until the Eagles scored three in the bottom of the fifth as Julien Boone knocked a two-run RBI single while Sam Huston brought in Boone two batters later on a single.
Ben Rollins was credited the loss for the Hornets as he pitched 4.1 innings allowing six hits, six runs, and two walked batters. Neil Robinson and Ben Brooks each saw time on the hill, giving up one hit each.
Ben Walls recorded the complete-game win for Husson, giving up six hits and two runs.
Game 2
Husson struck first again, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Lyndon answered with one run in the top of the second when Pena dashed home on a passed ball, cutting the lead to 2-1.
The Eagles posted a big third inning scoring seven runs on five hits, including a triple from Christian Corneil. Husson went on to score one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth while holding Lyndon scoreless for the remainder of the game for a 16-1 final score.
For the Hornets, John Boulay pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two hits and five runs to take the loss. Mike Raimondi, Andrew Whalen, Steve Bova, Zach Hale, and Shane LaCroix also saw time on the mound for Lyndon.
Ryan Allender was credited the win on the day as he pitched four innings and allowed four hits, one run and walked one batter.
The Hornets (13-3, 0-4 NAC) will travel to New England College on Monday, April 11 for a double header conference matchup with a start time of 2:00 p.m.
The Eagles (11-9, 6-2 NAC) will be back in action at Southern Maine on Tuesday, April 12 for a start time of 3:30 p.m.
