Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine – The Lyndon State College baseball team opened up its four game series at Husson University with two close losses Friday evening. The Eagles came back for a 5-4 win in eight innings in the first game before taking the second game 3-2.
Andre Eason Jr. led the Hornets on the day going 3-for-7 at the plate while scoring two runs and batting in one. Jake Jourdain went 2-for-4 and scored a run while Reece Tanguay added a hit and two RBIs.
Game 1
The Hornets opened up game one by taking a one-run lead off a sacrifice fly from Devon Rollins that scored leadoff man Andre Eason.
Jeff Williams held the Eagles hitless until the third inning, giving up a single before an error allowed Cam Archer to score, tying the game 1-1. The Hornets took the lead right back in the top of the fourth as Ryan Cordeiro scored Rollins from third on a rare ground out to right field.
Both teams would plate two runs each in the fifth inning to give the Hornets the 4-3 advantage heading into the six inning. Lyndon held that advantage going into the bottom of the seventh but closer Andrew Whalen and the Hornet defense were unable to shut the door on the hosts as the Eagles picked up one run to send the game into extras. The Eagles took that momentum into the eighth as they retired the Hornets consecutively before plating a run in the bottom of the inning to take the game 5-4.
Jeff Williams threw five solid innings for the Hornets surrendering three hits and three runs. Zak Johnson threw a scoreless sixth giving up two hits. Whalen (0-3) took the loss in one and a third innings of work.
Brandon Reilly (3-1) registered the win for Husson going all eight innings while giving up five hits and three earned runs.
Game 2
The Eagles got the on the scoreboard first when Mike Wong scored on a wild pitch as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead after one inning.
However, Lyndon State responded with a two-run rally in the top of the third when Tanguay notched a two-run single through the left side plating Jake Jourdain and catcher David Laroche for a 2-1 lead.
Ryan Rebar tied the game in the bottom of the fourth off a RBI single to center field by Zach Sugar before Wong scored the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Boone in the bottom of the sixth making the game 3-2.
Starting pitcher Dan Whitney would retire the Hornets in order in the top of the seventh for the victory.
Starting pitcher Davis Guyer (0-3) allowed three runs on four hits with a walk while fanning four over six innings for the loss.
Whitney (2-1) recorded the complete-game win, allowing four hits and two earned runs.
After the losses head coach Tom White expressed, "Husson is a solid club. We beat ourselves in the first game and the second was a good game."
"That's our 12th loss that has been by three runs or less," continued White. "We've just got to learn how to win those."
The Hornets (3-11, 0-2 NAC) and the Eagles (9-9, 4-2 NAC) are right back at it tomorrow for another NAC doubleheader at Harold Alfond Diamond at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
