FARMINGTON, Maine – The Lyndon State College baseball team looked to bounce back from two tough losses yesterday as they again faced the University of Maine at Farmington for a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. However, the Beavers were able to take both games by a narrow margin of 2-0 and 6-2.
Game 1
The Beavers got on the board first in game one when Jordan Croteau crushed an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
Despite getting three runners into scoring position, the Hornets were unable to plate any runs as UMF added an insurance run if the fifth, eventually taking the victory 2-0
Kyle Peterson earned the complete game victory giving up four hits.
Jeff Williams (Gilsum, N.H) recorded the loss surrendering just four hits and one earned run over the six innings.
Devon Rollins (Winooski, Vt.) recorded two of Lyndon's four hits in the game.
Game 2
The Hornets were able to get on the board first in the second game as Reece Tanguay (Essex Junction, Vt.) singled to bring in Andre Eason Jr. (Waterbury, Conn.) from second base to take a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers were able to take the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs off a double from Tom Grady and an RBI single from Grayson Beressi.
UMF tacked on another run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to grab a 6-1 lead going into the seventh. The Hornets were able to record one more run in the top of the seventh when Eason scored his second run of the day on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Tufo (Colchester, Conn.). On the next at-bat, Devon Rollins singled, moving Jake Jourdain (Becket, Mass.) to third, and took second on the throw to place two runners in scoring position but the Beavers were able to force a ground out to end the game 6-2.
Jory Humphrey earned a complete game win surrendering one earned run on five hits.
Ben Rollins (Lincolnville, Maine) recorded the loss allowing eight hits and four runs over 3.1 innings. Zak Johnson (East Hampton, Conn.) and Andrew Whalen (Cumberland, R.I.) pitched in relief.
Devon Rollins registered two more hits while Eason finished with two runs and a hit.
The Hornets (4-20, 1-11 NAC) host Colby-Sawyer Wednesday for a NAC doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
UMaine-Farmington (12-10, 5-7 NAC) takes a break from conference play on Tuesday with a nine-inning showdown with Bates College at Hippach Field.
