Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Despite a strong offensive start Saturday afternoon, the Lyndon State College men's basketball team fell to Thomas College 80-71 in North Atlantic Conference play at Stannard Gymnasium.
Off to a hot start on the afternoon, the Hornets hit their first seven shots to jump out to a 16-10 lead just over four minutes into the game. With 13:17 to play in the first half, Kevin Love's (Bristol, Conn.) layup gave Lyndon their largest lead of the game at 23-14. The Terriers battled back with a 12-1 run and took their first lead of the game at 26-24 with 9:52 to play. Both teams would fight for advantage over the final nine minutes of the half but the game would go into the break tied up at 41-41.
The scoring would slow a bit over the first ten minutes of the second half but a three-pointer from Corey Frost (Hamden, Conn.) would help the Hornets to the 59-58 advantage with just under 10:00 to play.
A three from Mike Akanji (Lincoln, R.I.) at the 7:39 mark gave Thomas the lead 63-62. The Terriers were then able to keep the Hornets at bay and slowly stretch the lead over the final three minutes to take the 80-71 victory.
Lyndon's Shaun Hill, (Providence, R.I.) who hit his first six shots of the game, led all scorers with 24 points while adding five rebounds and three steals. Love added 16 points and five rebounds and Frost finished with 10 points and three assists.
Levi Barnes (Skowhegan, Maine) led the Terriers with 21 points and four rebounds. Carlos Gonzalez (Kennebunk, Maine) picked up a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds while going 11-12 from the charity stripe. Akanji also finished with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Hornets travel to Husson University on Friday, February 5th for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
The Terriers host Castleton University for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Friday as well.
