Box Score 2 LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Lyndon kept its North Atlantic Conference playoff hopes alive Sunday with a split of its doubleheader with Husson University. The Hornets took the opener 12-6 before dropping the nightcap by a score of 6-3.
In Game 1, Lyndon plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning on run-scoring singles by Ian Sackett (Danville, Vt.) and Michael Cartularo (Lyndonville, Vt.) to take an early lead and then broke the game open with a six-run third inning uprising. Reece Tanguay (Essex Junction, Vt.) had a two-run single in the inning while Andre Eason Jr. (Waterbury, Conn.), Kevin Tufo (Colchester, Conn.) and Ryan Cordeiro (Rollinsford, N.H.) knocked home one run each with a single.
James Mundy (Brentwood, N.H.) went five innings to get the win allowing five earned runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking four. Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) had three hits for the winner, including a double, and Sacket chipped in three hits as well.
Eason, Tanguay, Cartularo, Tufo and Mike LoVerde (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in two hits each to the Hornets 18-hit barrage.
In the nightcap, Lyndon jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play, but the Eagles managed to make up the difference and take the lead for good in a three-run third.
Newton knocked in a pair of runs in the first for Lyndon only to see Husson plate a pair of runs in the top of the third and an additional three in its next at bat.
Ryan Rebar had two hits for the Eagles while J.T. Whitten, Adam Wilson, Christian Corneil and Jordan Carter had one each. Brandon Reilly went the distance allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking one.
Davis Guyer (Lyndon, Vt.) suffered the loss for Lyndon, allowing five earned runs on three hits while fanning two and walking six. Eason and Cartularo had two hits each in the loss.
Lyndon returns to the diamond Monday when it travels to New London, N.H. to battle Colby-Sawyer College. Game time is 2 p.m.
