Box Score 2 LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon baseball team spilt a doubleheader with the University of Maine at Farmington Thursday at Skip Pound Field. The Beavers took the first game 10-5 before the Hornets battled their way to a hard-fought 1-0 win in the nightcap.
Sean Cabaniss pounded out three hits to lead UMF and Jimmy Neal chipped in two and a pair of runs-batted-in. Tom Grady had a double and three RBIs. Nate Pushard earned the win going four innings while allowing three earned runs on four runs while striking out two and walking five.

"It was a tough game. We made mistakes in the field that we should not have made," said Lyndon Head Coach Tom White. "We had trouble finding the strike zone in that first game. It's tough to have a game like that when you're playing a team like UMaine Farmington. They are a great team. "
In the Game 2, each team had a difficult time scoring as Mason Brewer (Wiscasset, Maine) had the game of his career, allowing no runs on 1 hit through seven innings of shutout ball.
"I could not believe how well I pitched today." He said. "I just felt in the moment and even before the second game started I felt really great when I threw out that first pitch. I knew that this was going to be our game. Our defense really showed up to preserve the win."
Brewer went the distance allowing no runs on three hits whiles striking out seven and walking two. Sackett knocked in the game's lone run with a first inning double. Newton had two hits for the winners.
Neal suffered the loss allowing one earned run on five hits while fanning seven and walking two. Ben Keene had two hits for UMF including a double.
"Brewer was on point today he was confidence with all his pitches," said White. "His fastball and curveball were his weapons today. He struck out seven batters on one-hit ball, but it wasn't just him it was his catcher Nate Stewart, who has been one of back bones this year. He really helped Mason in the game today. "
The Hornets will host Husson University Saturday in a doubleheader which gets underway at 1 p.m.
