Eagles sneak by Hornets

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Husson University Eagles edged out a 3-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over Lyndon Saturday.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Phil Frost headed a Josh Bean throw-in into the back of the net just 10:24 into the contest. Ball possession was the game plan for both teams as the first half concluded with Husson clinging to their narrow lead.

The Eagles found themselves on top by two goals as Saker Ghanayem scored just 1:10 into the second half. Matt Milliard and Frost drew assists on the play. Lyndon responded halfway through the half as Eric Nelson (Guildhall, Vt.) was able to poke one past Husson goalkeeper Brian Potter.

"Being down two to nothing, showing the spirit to come back in the game, actually start dictating the pace of the game and hopefully dictate the outcome," said Head Coach Pete Kellaway. "You could see the momentum swing."

And the momentum did swing. Lyndon was extremely discipline as they only fouled twice throughout the entire match. Husson had the edge in shots 17 -11, but a late Eagles goal by Charles Bujambi off a pass from Ghanayem sealed the 3-1 victory.
Kellaway said he was disappointed because his team didn't match up as well as they could have, but his team was aware of the unique skill set the Eagles' players had.

"When we got it to 2-1, I thought that our enthusiasm level got the better of us and we were pushing up to try to get the equalizer," he said. "I think when transition happened it left an odd-man in the back and they took advantage of it."

The Hornets have a quick turnaround as they play Maine Maritime Academy tomorrow at 12 p.m.

"Tomorrow is going to be a battle of attrition. Whoever can get composed tonight, get re-hydrated - you know water, Gatorade, some carbs. I like our opportunity tomorrow," said Kellaway. "The other team is on the road and they play on turf so we'll see."

The loss is drops Lyndon to 4-4on the year overall and they are currently 0-2 in NAC play. Overall, Kellaway was pleased with how his team played today.

"I'm really proud of our guys," he said. "They never quit."
