Box Score 2 LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Lyndon's five-game North Atlantic Conference winning streak came to an end Saturday with a doubleheader loss to Castleton State. The Spartans took the opener by a score of 11-1 before walking off with an 11-4 win in the nightcap.
The losses drop Lyndon to 7-9 overall and in the NAC while Castleton improves to 17-8 and 14-3, respectively.
In Game 1, the Spartans jumped out to an 8-0 after two and one-half innings of play and coasted to the victory. Jim Buckley' two-run double in the first and Daniel Errico's two RBI single in the third would give Castleton starter Adam Greenlese all the support he would need to earn his third victory of the season. The senior left-hander allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out six and walking none.
Errico had three hits to lead the Spartans and drove in three runs in the process. Buckley added two hits including a solo home run in the fourth.
Brandon Flood (South Ryegate, Vt.) took the loss for the Hornets allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work. He fanned four and walked six. Alexis Guzman (Cutler Ridge, Fla.) accounted for the lone Lyndon run in the game with a run-scoring ground out in the seventh.
In Game 2, Castleton blew open a close game with an eight-run, seventh inning uprising to earn a sweep of the twin bill. Trailing 4-3 entering the inning, the Spartans used RBI singles off the bats of Chaz Millett and Soren Perez-Walsh - and three Hornet errors – to retake the lead and seal the victory.
Robert Gould got the win in relief of Devin Hayes. He allowed one earned run on one three hits while striking out one and walking no one.
Lyndon starter Jeff Williams (Gilsum, N.H.) took the loss allowing only three earned runs on nine hits while fanning seven and walking three. Tyler Pelletier (St. Albans, Vt.) had three hits – including a double – in the loss while Ian Sackett (Lyndonville, Vt.) chipped in three to go along with two RBI.
