Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Alec Brigante's goal at the 32:40 mark of the first half proved to be the game-winner as Norwich University walked-off with a slim 1-0 victory over upset-minded Lyndon Wednesday at the Lyndon Athletics Field.
After missing out on a few solid scoring opportunities, the Cadets took the lead for god when Colin Lozito chipped the ball across the mouth of the Lyndon goal to Brigante who managed to fight off a Hornet defender and tap a shot into the lower right corner of the goal. Lyndon responded with a several scoring chances of its own, but was unable to score the equalizer.
"We have some very good looks at the goal," said Lyndon Head Coach Pete Kellaway. "We were playing at a different level today. Everyone has now made a commitment to the team and our level of focus is better than its ever been. We played a good game this afternoon and it's certain something we can build on heading into Saturday's match with Green Mountain."
The Hornets are currently 0-4 in North Atlantic Conference play with five matches left to play. Wins over Green Mountain, UMaine-Farmington and Colby-Sawyer in the next 10 days will vault Lyndon back into the playoff picture.
"We're starting to get healthy again after being nicked up for the past three games," said Kellaway. "Also, we're more experience now as opposed to the first month of the season. With so many freshmen it's hard to be consistent, but the injuries we've had has pressed some of our younger players into playing more minutes. Now we're contending on defense and competing the entire game."
Cadet goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom stopped eight shots to earn his ninth victory and fifth shutout of the season while Hornet goalie Jason Marks (Newtoiwn, Conn.) collected four saves in the contest. Norwich out shot Lyndon by a margin of 14-11.
The Cadets (9-3-1) will host St. Joseph's College of Maine Friday at 7 p.m. while Lyndon entertains Green Mountain College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
