Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. - Three second half goals, two in a span of two minutes, spurred Green Mountain College to a 4-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over Lyndon on Sunday afternoon. The win marks the Eagles first NAC victory of the year.
Lyndon (4-11-0, 1-7-0 NAC) got on the scoreboard early in the first half at the seventh minute mark when sophomore midfielder Erika Lind (Yarmouth, Port, Mass.) bent a shot away from the Green Mountain goalie and inside the right post after she settled a pass from senior forward Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.).
Lind's third goal of the year gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead which they would hold for less than three minutes until Green Mountain responded on Maegan Laymon's second goal of the year.
The Eagles initially pressed the ball deep into the Hornet's final third, but were unsuccessful in getting a shot on net as the Hornet's defense cleared the ball. Laymon stepped in front of a secondary clearing pass about 16 yards out and after taking aim, put a low liner into the lower left corner to even the score at 1-1.
Green Mountain College(5-9-0, 1-6-0 NAC) would take a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the second half on a pretty passing play between a trio of Eagle players. Sophomore midfielder Martha Howe corralled a ball from the Eagles' backline and immediately sent it forward to freshman Lauren Nesshoever.
Nesshoever wasted no time in flicking it through to a streaking junior forward Katrina Ellis-Ferrara who took a couple touches and then shot the ball past the outstretched arms of diving Hornets' keeper Marley Harmon (Buxton, Maine). Ellis-Ferrera's goal was her eighth on the year.
The Eagles would strike again for two quick goals in the 84th and 85th minute to extend their lead to 4-1. Nessover scored her 13th goal as she headed in an indirect kick from sophomore teammate Allison Wadsworth. Martha Howe capped the scoring for the Eagles on the afternoon when she one-timed a pass from senior defender Virginia Anderson over the Hornets' keeper. Howe's goal marked her third on the year.
GMC's sophomore keeper Amber Heath made five saves to pick up her fourth win of the campaign, while Harmon made six saves for the Hornets in the loss.
