UMaine-Farmington, Lyndon split doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon closed out is four-game season series with the University of Maine at Farmington with a split of a doubleheader at Skip Pound Field.

In the opener, the Hornets rallied from a two-run deficit in their final at bat to record an 8-7 win over the Beavers. In the nightcap, Farmington turned the tables on the hosts, wiping out a one-run advantage to earn a 4-1 victory and a split of the twin bill.

In Game 1, Lyndon trailed 7-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but managed to plate three runs and steal the victory. A walk, a single by Cody Gage (Newport, Vt.) and a passed ball set the stage for Tyler Pelletier's (St. Albans, Vt.) two-run single that knotted the score at 7-7 with one out.

A Beaver error pushed Pelletier into scoring position and he came home a few pitches later on Robert Trucott's (Lyndonville, Vt.) run-scoring single to right centerfield.

Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.) went the distance to get the win allowing three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out nine and walking four. Pelletier had two hits and four runs-batted-in in the contest while Gage added three hits and two runs scored.

Isaac Earle (Vernon, Vt.) and Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) added two hits each for Lyndon (5-23, 3-17).

Matthew Woodbury had three hits for Farmington (7-23, 6-13) and the duo of Brett Wallingford and Zach Keene collected two each. Brandon Gallagher pitched a complete game in taking the loss. He allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits while fanning eight and walking four.

In Game 2, the Beavers trailed 1-0 in the top of the seventh and had only one hit to show for their efforts. But a Lyndon error and a two-out pinch-hit single by Gallagher extended the inning long enough to allow Woodbury to come to the plate and swat a two-run double into the right centerfield gap.

Another Hornet error and an RBI double by Chris Whitney chased home two more runs and made a winner of Casey Ashey, who went all seven innings to get the win. He allowed no earned runs on six hits while striking out six and walking none.

Mason Brewer (Wiscasset, Maine) took the loss, giving up one earned run on four hits while fanning six and walking none. O'Donnell-Leach had two hits in the game for Lyndon.
